Thank God Apple doesn’t build cars

I’ve had my 60GB Video iPod for almost 6 months now and you’d think it was 6 years. It is ridiculous how easily and badly the iPod scratches. It amazes me that Apple can get away with it! Can you imagine what a car would look like if it were built to iPod specs? I think I’m going to have to make a subsequent post on the subject once I’ve photo shopped the hypothetical result ;-)

Now some of you will probably say that I must abuse my iPod or that I should keep it in a protective skin. I actually own two protective sleeves and can only use them when I travel. Why? Because my iPod goes with me to work where it sits in the DLO Transpod in my car. You’d think that they might design it to accommodate a sleeve over top of the iPod, since exposing an iPod even briefly to the environment without one will surely result in scratches, but they don’t. When I get to work, I pop my iPod into the Bose Sound dock (which I highly recommend). And to answer your question, no the Sound dock doesn’t accommodate an iPod in a sleeve either :-(
Anyhow, it continues to amaze me that people simply drink the Apple cool-aid without a complaint. They will pay whatever Job’s asks like little lemmings and renounce anything ‘Microsoft’ along the way. But I’m not bitter or anything ;-)

Maybe Apple does this on purpose. If everyone’s iPod’s look like crap, no one will be able to sell them on eBay and Apple will sell more iPods as a result.

That’s because you carry it in the front pocket of your jeans.

Throw some Ramones and Minor Threat stickers on it, and you’ve got yourself the “punk rock” iPod… More personality than the out of the box, run-of-the mill, shiney clean iPod. (This might also require losing the Dave Matthews tunes.

    ;-P

Toothpaste and a damp cloth do a pretty job removing these scratches…
