Another hellish commute and more snow in Sammamish
Thursday, January 11th, 2007(click on the picture below to see a slide show!)
I set a new record for my commute home yesterday at six hours ten minutes. I had taken Erin’s car in to the shop yesterday morning, so at 4:20, I had a shuttle pick me up from work. It had started snowing ten minutes earlier and within minutes of leaving the Microsoft campus, it was so icy that traffic basically stopped and it took me three hours to go six miles to the dealership. I picked up Erin’s car and started for home and made it in the door at 10:30 PM. We had gotten over eight inches of snow and I’ve never quite seen anything like it.
My favorite part is the news casters out here in Seattle. They don’t have a clue what the weather is going to do, but they act like they do. We were supposed to get a storm two nights back and of course didn’t, but when we woke up, they had news correspondents spread out all over the region reporting on the “flurries” that we had gotten. And then they didn’t forecast this mess, so once again everyone was caught off guard. I probably passed a couple hundred abondoned cars on the way home. Erin’s new Pacifica was awesome however. I didn’t slip at all, even going up an ice covered hill that made the news because it was so treacherous.
Anyhow, school was cancelled and there was no chance that my Infiniti was going to make it to and from work today, so I stayed home and took a couple breaks to take these shots of the kids and the snow outside.
Happy New Year (since this is my first post for 2007).
